Rana dedicated her thesis during her MA course at the Royal College of Art in 1991 to Beirut. She left Beirut to London during the civil war to pursue her education in design when Beirut had no courses in design to be found. She left to London not knowing what her involvement as a graphics design student would lead to capturing the unseen.
The Shrapnel series captures the beautiful details of destruction and pain caused by the intense bombing on Beirut city in the 1990's. These images were taken in the Beirut souks, now Beirut Downtown.
We have collected a series of images from her thesis to anyone who is interested in her observation and her understanding of what makes a culture through images.
